Strategies towards global disarmament – How to build an anti-militaristic movement
Imperial wars are escalating and militarisation is on the rise. While Germany continues to provide weapons for the genocide in Palestine, we are also faced with the threat of a new compulsory military service to serve in their imperial wars.
The 10% campaign wants to form coalitions to stop this cycle of militarisation and rearmament, internationally and locally. Its coordinators Mamello Mosiana and Sahar Vardi are in Germany this month to talk about the campaign at Lokal International. We will discuss their call for global disarmament and a reallocation of military budgets towards social justice and care.
Does a call for 10% reduction in militarisation allow for far-reaching mobilisation? How can we align different interests to stop the current trends for militarisation worldwide? What could this campaign look like in practice and how can it help us strengthen the anti-militaristic movement in Frankfurt?
Mamello is a peace activist and antifascist from South Africa. She is the Head of Campaigns at Open Secrets, a South African non-profit organisation that exposes and builds accountability for economic crime.
Sahar Vardi is an anti-militarist, anti-occupation activist and conscientious objector from Jerusalem. She has done extensive research on the global arms trade and is co-coordinating the 10% for All campaign
As always there will be food after the event!
